Bat Walk at the Susquehannock Wildlife Conservation Center
Join the Susquehannock Wildlife Society for an evening of bats! We’ll start with a short screening of Beneficial Bats by Marty Stouffer, then head outside for a guided walk around the Conservation Center grounds to listen for, detect, and identify bats. Along the way, we'll collect citizen science data on the bats we detect and talk about our local bat species, their conservation status, and how you can support them! The walk is led by Sadie Rozics, a Wildlife Conservation Technician with the Susquehannock Wildlife Society through the Chesapeake Conservation and Climate Corps. Sadie has studied bats in Owings Mills and will guide the group using an ultrasonic bat detector, which picks up bat echolocation calls that people can't normally hear and plays them back as sound. We'll stop at several points along the route to listen, take turns at the detector, and record what we find.
