Subodhana Wijeyeratne wrote an academic book on the history of the Japanese space program– and he also writes sci-fi! We love this pairing, and can’t wait to welcome him to Bird in Hand on October 28 to spotlight his science fiction novel, Triangulum . Karina A. Vado, Senior Lecturer in Medicine, Science, and the Humanities at Johns Hopkins University, will join Wijeyeratne in conversation, to discuss what Publisher’s Weekly calls “an elegant and layered space opera” that follows three young humans in a far-future galaxy sliding into war. His short fiction has appeared in Analog Science Fiction and Fact, khōréō, Aurealis, Electric Spec, Kaleidotrope, The Future Fire, and numerous other publications. His story “Termina” was a finalist for Analog’s Readers’ Choice Award, while “They Meet in the Wall” received a Mariner Award. Wijeyeratne is also an assistant professor of history at Purdue University and the author of The Islands and the Stars: A History of Japan’s Space Programs, published by Stanford University Press.
