Where: Tour meets at the entrance to the S. Dillon Ripley Center. Every monument, memorial, and historic site reflects a series of choices about what to honor, how to tell the story, and what lessons future generations should take away. By looking closely at monuments, you can gain insight into the events they represent and the values and priorities of their creators. Few places offer a richer opportunity for such an exploration than Washington’s National Mall. Historian Christopher Hamner leads a day of discovery that visits the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, Korean War Veterans Memorial, World War II Memorial, and Ulysses S. Grant Memorial.
