Up and down the Bay, these keepers had risky jobs with an important responsibility : to keep the Chesapeake’s shoals and channels safely marked for shipping and travel . This tour requires a moderate amount of walking ( approximately ½ mile) across uneven surfaces including gravel and boardwalk, as well as several flights of stairs.
